Hello Everyone and thank you for reading this message in advance.
My name is John Hansen and I was stationed in Korea much later then most or all of you gentlemen. I was assigned with the 45TH Transportation Corp. at Camp Humphreys repairing CH-47,UH-IH, and other rotory aircraft. I was in country in 1981. I wanted you all to know I was in Korea but here is where we might be a little closer in the time area, I was born in TDC outside of Camp Casey in April of 1959. My Father was in the Army and stationed at Casey. He met my Mother Sook Young Park I would imagine around 1958 or so since I was concieved in 1959.
My Father was caucasian, around 6ft. or so and medium built is all I know regards to his physical appearance. The only thing I can remember what my Mother told me is quite vague since I was only 5 years old. Some people adopted me in 1966 in Illinois but that was a bad scene. The people at Social Services ended up removing my little brother and I from these people in 1968 for child endangerment and abuse. Was beaten so bad couldnt sit up against my chair in school, I remember that after all these years. Anyways back to what the agency who did the adoption had written regards to what my Mother had told them.
It was apparent my Father tried to convince my Mother he wanted to take me back to the States since thats what my Mother stated but she didnt allow him to because he wanted to only take me back since he was married Stateside. Since he refused to take her,she made it impossible for my Father to take me with him, and for 35 years now, I wanted my Dad to know how much it has meant to me to know this.
It has been a real hard life for me since I really have no past identity or connection. Back in 1981 I tried to locate my Mother but was futile in my efforts and any kind of attempts. I need to know who I am? Can anyone relate with what I am saying? I have walked into bars wanting just a drink and walked out fighting some assholes who hated me because I was a ghost. I have met women then walked away from the relationships because I had no Parents to introduce. I've lived hard and so I know regards to my Fathers genetic compatability with me, he must have been a very strong man, and who didnt take no crap but loved his Family since thats the way I am. I am a single Father now raising 4 children ranging from 15 to 22.
So I guess what I am asking for and I realize its a long shot or even like they say in Vegas, 1 in a million chance, but I'm hoping maybe just maybe my Father will recognize the name or maybe someone might know something which might be able to help me find some closure or reunion.
Please understand I'm not asking for anything, just telling my story and hoping my Dad reads this message. I love you Dad, your son Tommy( my Korean American name)my Korean name was Dae Myung Park.

Thank you gentlemen and God Bless,
Sincerely,
John Hansen

I was at Camp Casey and TDC just a short time after you were born. I was there Sept 60 to Oct 61. Life in Korea for the Korean's and the GI's in those years were very rough. Most of TDC was made up of houses that had walls that had some wood for the main framing, and branches from trees laced between them, with a mixture of mostly mud, and some cement mixed in for the walls. About 90% of them had thatched roofs made from the unused parts of the rice plants. The only hard surfaced roads in TDC were the main road from Uijongbu, up as far as gate 2 of Camp Casey, and the road going from Casey's gate 1, to the west for about 1 mile. All the rest of the roads in this area were either just dirt, or had some gravel on them. I was a Truck Driver on this tour in Korea, and drove these roads daily. Camp Casey had upgraded from only tents to Quonset Huts in 1955 and 56, and when I was there in 1961-62, we were upgrading the quonset hut from plywood floors to concrete floors in them.

Most of the guys that were stationed in Korea in the late 50s, through the 60s, refer to it as the wild west days. The area north of Seoul was much like what you see in the old Cowboy Movies. Smile

Your Mother, and all the Korean people in those years lived a very hard life.

Thank You Bruce,
I have a computer which automatically logs me in. I will keep a closer eye on it though. Thank you for the info regards to Camp Casey. I do realize how different it was back in 1959. I am just hoping anyone who was stationed there might know something or remember my Father.

I would like to take this time to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and happy holidays. For all Military personnel serving overseas abroad, may God bless you and keep everyone of you from harms way. May God also touch all your hearts and fill them with the warmth and joy in knowing you are all loved and appreciated for all you do.
I remember when I was stationed overseas, the emptiness from being away from your loved ones during the holidays always seem to be less lonely and depressing when the guys would get together and celebrate with each other. It always made things a little more bareable.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS US EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PostSubject: I think somebody might want to know?   Information Icon_minitimeWed Feb 02, 2011 7:48 am

My Dad went into the V.A. hospital last week because he is really sick. I dont know if he will get any better but my sisters and my little brother are there for our Dad. I know he checks this website all the time and my older sister got his log in info, so I went and posted this letter this morning before i get ready and go visit Dad. We keep telling him to stop searching cuz its been so long and his real Dad probably forgot or doeasnt care, but he just smiles and tells us he wont quit till hes 6 feet under or finds him. I wish he would quit because i think its killing him.
The reason I am writing in here is we dont know if anybody out there has been talking to our Dad. So if you know our Dad, just thought you want to know.
thank you,
Christian James Hansen

Hello Christian,
I do not know John personally, but talked to him here, and can understand his desire to find his Father. It is natural to seek our roots, and as we get older, we all look to our younger years.

I wish him well, and hope the VA gets him back to good health soon.

Been back from the VA. Have some serious health issues, but keeping my chin up.
I recieved a call today from someone claiming to be my Father. The message: " Hi John this is Dad,just checking on ya Bye." No forward number or anything and the number was restricted so I couldnt even trace the call. This happened to me before and it was a prank. I dont know who called but please dont play games if thats what you are doing. If in fact it was my Father, please call again and leave a number so I can contact you.
People who think this was funny,You have no idea how hard it is for me and how much it hurts when I find out it was someone trying to be funny.
