I received a message from the webmaster requesting a post. OK. As you may know many of the camps in Korea are being returned to back to the Koreans. Camp Casey, being one of the northernmost bases will no doubt be one of bases. Camp Casey has been renamed Garrison Casey, and Tongduchon is now spelled Dongducheon.

I was in the 7th Admin Co. Camp Casey 1967 & 68, and lived in those damn Quanset Huts. I believe my hootch was T-2420. I handled the records for HHC 7th Inf Div. I spent too much $ in "the Ville" and drank too much.

I was on Casey from 69-70. 1st 31st arillery near the golf course and gate #2. When I got there in April of '69 we lived in the quonset huts. The new barracks were built for us during my stay and we moved in the first part of 1970. Why rename it Garrison Casey???

There was tension when I was there, over the North, but man it must be super high now! I'm sure all eyes are on the line!

I to was stationed at Camp Casey from January 1968 to December of 1968 in the Honest John unit Dave Dow writes about below. Near the Golf course, 1st of the 31st 7 division arty.

We had 4 rocket lanchers, I was the "Wind Set" opperater on firing section #3. Each rocket lancher had 10 men to man the crew, 40 of us and 800 men in the unit to back us up. We were special

They never told us much, but years later I figured out we were the most important unit in the 7th division, we had "Nukes", the "Sunday Punch" of the 8th Army. It was a well know "Secret Unit" since it was against the terms of the truce for "Nukes" to be in South Korea.

In late January of 1968 the North Koreans sent a squad of comando's over the DMZ to kill the president of South Korea. South Korean forces killed all but one of the infiltrators.

I was a draftee like most of thr rest of us. I hated the Army, but looking back on it, "I was proud to serve"

This web site brings back memories

Anyone that was in this unit I'd like to here from you.

I was at Camp Casey from January 1968 to February 1969. I was in C Company, 127th Signal Battalion. I recall the comando infiltrators referred to by Rick Beals. That was at the same time that the Pueblo was hijacked. No one seemed too concerned about the Pueblo, but the infiltrators were a big deal. I think everyone was confined to base for a while. No one told me that we had Korean's doing guard duty. I think it was the first day I was there and I came up on one holding a shotgun. That kind of freaked me out.

I made some good friends while I was in Korea, but never tried to maintain contact with anyone after I left in 1969. (I was a draftee and wanted nothing more to do with the army). I went to Japan on leave with a guy who's last name I believe was Semrow. It was not a particularly good trip. It was expensive, and we were taken advantage of on several occasions. People would offer you a ride, and then ask you for "cab fare". Also, bars would charge you hostess fees, table fees, and anything else they could think of.

Lots of stories come to mind. Went to Seoul one time, and took train back to TDC. Thought we were getting off at the right stop, but we on far south end of TDC. Were not allowed to be in civies in TDC. Had to hide from MP's on several occasions trying to make it back to Casey.

Hope others will discover this site and maybe will be able to reconnect with someone I knew while at Camp Casey.

Hey John,

Remember the games, the Village, the rain, the diesel and your "fav" Miss Lee ?

And Semrow's first name might be Harrison......?.....

Will look for replies.....Good to have spotted your notes on the site!

Regards,

Some of this matches...last name is Semrow but first name is Bob. Was in 7th MP Co at Casey but years are different. Think I was there year starting maybe Jan or Feb 63. Can't recall one name from back then except the houseboy Kim.... But they were probably all named Kim☺
