Camp Jonathan Williams Empty
PostSubject: Camp Jonathan Williams    Camp Jonathan Williams Icon_minitimeMon Jun 14, 2021 1:40 pm

My name is Tom Skaff. I was stationed at Camp Jonathan Williams from Oct 1966 to February 1968.
My outfit was Hawk Missle, Delta Battery, 2nd Battalion, 71st Artillery, 38th Brigade
My MOS was 23R30 - Radar Mechanic

As I recall Camp Jonathan Williams was located on MSR 1 (I think it is now Hwy 39),  near the village of Goyang about 9 miles north of Seoul
Headquarters for the 2nd Battalion, 71st Artillery was located in Camp Red Cloud near the village of Uijeongbu, north of Delta Battery and  as I recall, not too far from MSR1 (Hwy 39)
We split our time between the "Admin Area" and the "Tac" Site. A Great road up the mountain  to the "Tac" site, especially when there was snow and Ice
Usually, rode on the chow truck in the morning up to the "Tac" site.
Mount "Useless" was near the Tac Site (about the same elevation)

Some of the names I remember of these great guys:
Westbrook - Generator Section
"Scummy" - Generator Section; His clothes were always full diesel fuel
"Pops" Bingham - Generator Section He was 24 or 25; the rest of us were 18 & 19 years old
Laverde - Battery Fire Control
Howland - He always had a case of warm beer in the bottom of his footlocker
Eads - Motor Pool
Sheehy - Loader Mechanic/Operator
Carruth - Loader Mechanic/Operator
Williams - Loader Mechanic/Operator
Spillers - I think he was one of the Dog Handlers;
Plunk - Radar Mechanic
Lee - Radar Mechanic
Ketchem - Radar Mechanic
Lt Sylvester - Exec. Officer
Sgt Steffan - Battery Fire Control
Sgt Hayes - E8; I have forgotten his assignment
Sgt Chambers - Radar Section
Sgt Griffin - Loader Section
Sgt Verhoff - Loader Section
"T" - Battery Orderly (We all called him "T" because his last name was so long)
Kimchi - Battery mascot dog

This site brings back many memories
