PostSubject: Compound Name Help Please   Tue Jan 05, 2010 8:08 pm

In 1965-66 I was stationed in Korea as a Supply Sgt and was in three (troubled) batteries, straightening up the supply rooms and in S4 for IG, CMMI Inspections. I had a brief 3 month assignment as Asst section chief for the security platoon (with 6 sentry dogs) guarding our nuclear weapons.

For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the compounds. The batteries, HQ/Svc , A & B Batteries were in separate compounds. We were 1st Battalion, 17th Arty (8"SP), I Corps. We were about 3 miles from the Imjim (sp) River, guns bunkered in with targets in N Korea already determined.

We were north of Munsan-ni and Uijongbu (sp) in the 1st Cav Area and the village of Pamkogi (sp).

If anybody can recall the these compounds names or have pictures I'd appreciate the info

I think it was Camp McIntyre. I was in a Maint Company, and we had a Detachment there. I was over at Cp St Barbara, and drove over to McIntyre a few times to help them. I have a few pictures from the late 50s that I am going to add to my Camps page this week. I was there 69-70.

"security platoon (with 6 sentry dogs) guarding our nuclear weapons. "

I may be mistaken, but I believe at the time the fact that we had nukes there was classified. International agreement or something. May still be.

Anyway, a friend of mine from AIT was working security on the nukes too 'til he accidently shot himself in the butt with his .45. He was playing around. Did you ever hear about that? It was about '66.

I was Chf. Computor HQ FDC 6/12 175's '66-'67. St. Barbara.

I knew about the nukes at St Barbara, only because I lived in the 6/12 area, and did all the Direct Support work on all the equipment on the camp.

We worked our butts off, but what times we had when off. I was there 69-70.

I think our detachment was in Hq Btry 6/12 area, close to the Mess Hall. Here is a picture of us near our Quonset hut, with our shop in the back ground.

PostSubject: Nuc Rounds   Sun Aug 01, 2010 8:07 pm

You can see the MSA (maximin security area) where we had the nukes in the 4th picture from the bottom of in the back ground beyond the theater. We had 6 8" nuke rounds. We had the 2 man access rule, with 6 sargentandgreenleaf combination locks (3 each) to get into the ammo bunker. Two outer fence, 2 inner fence and 2 bunker doors. Very hard for me cause I have a hard time remembering numbers and we were not allowed to write them down (but I did - had to). Our hootch was the quonset on the right side of the MSA
