Service Battery, 6/12th Arty

Rankin, Baird, or others -

We lost two from our unit - Newton Figgs and the guy who shot himself with a M-14, can't remeber his name.

Do you mean the young pvt that killed himself at the gate house? I was on CQ that night and tried to get to him before he pulled the trigger, but didn't make it to the other side of the bridge!

Yes, he was assigned to my ammo section. Young kid, about 17 or 18, didn't know how to drive so I agreed to teach him how to drive using my jeep in the ammo dump, he ran it up under the back-end of one of our 5 ton trucks. Thought he was going to have to pay for the jeep but Lt. Tullis our btry commander just laughed it off. He was, if I'm not mistaken, from Louisianna.

The names sound familiar. Wish I had my annual, don't have a clue as to what happened to it. Do you remember Tannahil or Pollitt? How about Amadon, Pointer, Decker, Anderson just to name a few?

Do not recognize those names. I was in the ammo dump for a very short time. Then worked with the POL Driver

You don't have to tell me, of course, but I'm curious as to what your name is?

SFC Santiago, I think he was the supply Sgt - I was his clerk. We both were on CQ the last time I saw you. Does that ring any bells?

You know I wish I could tell you that bells and whistles are going off right now but unfortunately they are not!

Do you remember an E-4 Specialist, who complained to the C/O about how you treated the African American's in your Platoon? Do you remember Warnock and yourself coming to the Battery Office and the two of you beating up that E-4 Specialist?

Dude, you must be thinking of someone else! First of all I didn't have a platoon, secondly, I never treated any African American soldiers badly, and last of all I never beat up anyone, especially with Warnock!!

No problem, I do remember a fight going on in the orderly room and Sgt. Amadon and myself trying to break it up, but I don't remember who was in the fight. Warnock possibly was one involved, I'm not certain about that though. We only had one African-American in the ammo section while I was there, and I cannot remember his name but we never had any issues between us.
