I was TDY to Camp Kaiser for 3 months at a Truck Driver in the 17th Trans Bn. I drove between Casey and Kaiser 3-4 times a week. I loved driving the roads except the dust when it was dry.

Here is a web page about Camp Kaiser

I was assigned to the commo pltn, H&H company, 17th. Spent two winters (59/60 and 60/61) there and no matter what they say, there is a place colder than San Francisco in the summer. I enjoyed the country, people and the UN Club. Hope to find others that were stationed with me. Doug Boynton

We were there the same time. I was attached to the 17th inf while at Kaiser. Do not remember a lot about on Kaiser, since I was either driving some where, or layed up in the vill Smile

I drove one of the old GMC 2 1/2 trucks, and hauled troops up into the Z, to Night Mare Range, Icecle Range, etc.

I also spent a lot of time on the roads setting up radio relays on remote mountain tops. We had a 3/4 ton with a radio shack on the back. Did you get to Kaiser in early '60 before the vil went "on-limits"?

I got in country in Sep or Oct 60, but to Kaiser in Spring 61. The Vil was on limits then, and jumping. Smile

Was a lot like the movies of the old west.

Yes it was. I loved the early morning smells, except for the Katusa's kimchee breath and springtime rice paddies. Tough to take with a hangover. I see you are located in Tennessee - I was with the 101st in '58 and '59, lived off post for awhile in Clarksville - anywhere close to you? Thanks for the pictures, guestbook and forum - check them every week.

Yes, I live in Clarksville Tn. I live in the north east part of the city, that was country when you were here. I was with the 101st 3 times, 1 in Nam, and 2 at Campbell.

Spent 4 tours in Korea, and enjoyed 3 of them very much. The last one I worked so much, and did not have time to see or enjoy much.

Small world. It was "country" when I lived there and it was out in the northeast part too. I remember having frogs in my shower and while trying to figure how they were getting in there, I looked under the house and the shower drain was open to the ground and ran down into the creek.

I only did one tour in the service (58-61) but when I finished Korea I did get to serve with the 82nd in Ft. Bragg. So I was able to spend time with both abn divisions.

4 tours in Korea must be some kind of record...

I was assigned to Bragg when I PCSed from Korea in Sep or Oct 61. Was in Airborne Eletronics Test Board. It was one of the 1st units in the Army to only work Mon-Fri, and everyone carried there pass on them.

It was a unique unit, that everyone had a min of Sec Clearance. Our barracks was in the same building as our orderly room and operations, and everyone had to show a special pass to get in the building. I miss placed mine one night, and had to sleep in my car. Smile

There are only a few of the old wood barracks on Caqmpbell now. The guys have very nice rooms now. Clarksville is the 5th or 6th largest city in Tn now, and growing fast.

If the Army knew how much fun I had in Korea, they would take my retirement pay away.
